A new video from DidYouKnowGaming shines a light on two Star Wars games that never saw the light of day. These include a Rogue Squadron game where you played on the Dark side, called Dark Squadron, and an action-adventure game where iconic Star Wars creature Chewbacca was the main character.
As the video explains, in late 2003, LucasArts had to decide which of these projects it would greenlight for production (via Eurogamer). Dark Squadron was to be developed by Factor 5, which had made the previous Rogue Squadron games, while LucasArts' internal team was heading up the Chewbacca game.
The Wookiee warrior game won out, but it was never released. Check out the in-depth video below to see and hear the stories behind the two promising-sounding games--it's a great watch and well worth your time.

Dark Squadron would have apparently been a flight combat game featuring the Imperial side. The main character was going to be Darth Vader, and players could command an Imperial fleet, able to summon new vehicles from the menu screen, and call in airstrikes and land attacks.

As for the Chewbacca game, which wasn't given a name in the video, it would have explored the time between character's life on Kashyyyk and when he became Han Solo's right-hand man. This would have existed between Star Wars films 3 and 4, Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
It's reported in the video that Star Wars creator George Lucas himself shut down the project, apparently unhappy with the fact that Chewbacca would be a lead character.
The team behind the Chewbacca game would go on to make Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, which was eventually released in 2008.
While Chewbacca may not be getting his own game soon, the character will appear in 2018's Han Solo spinoff movie. Additionally, he comes to Star Wars Battlefront in September with the game's new Death Star expansion.
