Deadpool 2: Stephen Lang Wants to Play Cable, But He Hasn't Been Asked

Stephen Lang (Avatar) most recently appeared in the horror film Don't Breathe, and now he wants to play Cable in 2018's Deadpool 2 next. Unfortunately for hopeful fans, he hasn't been asked to portray the time-travelling character yet.
In an interview with Mashable, Lang was asked if he'd spoken to Deadpool director Tim Miller about the possibility of playing Cable. He said he's a fan of the first movie and would be "delighted to be a part of that sequel." However, he hasn't heard from anyone about the role.
"The extent of what I did was, one day I was in the gym and I tweeted, 'Let's lay some Cable,' and that became construed as my campaign for the part," Land said. "Even now, if someone does fan art, I'll retweet it because I like keeping it alive."
Lang mentioned that Deadpool 2 and his previous film Avatar are both distributed by 20th Century Fox, but he isn't sure if "that makes it easier or more difficult logistically." Regardless of the potential casting difficulty, Lang repeated that he hasn't been approached and is unsure if he's even under consideration.
[IMG]"But they must be aware of it because whoever makes those decisions must be aware of everything," Lang said. "Plus, I think I'd do a pretty bang-up job with the part. Having said that, understand that my obligation is to the largest, most successful film ever made, so Avatar takes precedence."
Lang's character, Colonel Quaritch, dies in Avatar, though the actor is confirmed for that movie's sequel. It's unclear how exactly he'll return.
Deadpool released this past February, broke numerous records, and became the highest grossing R-rated movie. Its sequel is expected to start shooting early next year, with its release date set for January 12, 2018.
