In its latest weekly blog post today, Bungie made some announcements about Destiny's Trials of Osiris multiplayer event, including news that impacts people across console generations.
First, the final Trials of Osiris event for players on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (now considered "legacy consoles") will be held August 26-August 30. "After this weekend, Trials of Osiris will no longer appear within the Director." Destiny is changing in many more ways for last-gen players and you can get up to speed with all the changes by reading this post.
[IMG]The other major announcement is that Trials of Osiris is "going on hiatus" soon. The mode will be missing after the weekend of September 2 and not returning until September 30 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The event, the first after Rise of Iron's release on September 20, will begin September 30 at 10 AM PT.
If you're on a last-gen system and still want to play Trials of Osiris, and the rest of Destiny, you'll need to upgrade to a new console and buy Rise of Iron, Bungie said.
"To access Trials of Osiris after August 30, 2016, Legacy Console players will need to upgrade from their Legacy Console and purchase Destiny: Rise of Iron once it is released," the developer explained. "The Taken King players on current-gen consoles will also need to purchase Destiny: Rise of Iron once it is released in order to continue accessing Trials of Osiris."
Also in Bungie's blog post today, the developer confirmed that Rise of Iron is now available to preorder digitally on PS4 and Xbox One. You need to own The Taken King to preorder Rise of Iron, it explained.
"Destiny: The Taken King is not bundled with the base Destiny game. If this expansion is purchased without owning Destiny, players may be prompted to download the Destiny Trial," Bungie went on to say. "Trial mode does not grant access to Destiny: The Taken King content, nor Destiny: Rise of Iron content when it is available for gameplay on September 20th, 2016."
People who bought The Taken King from a digital store in error can contact PlayStation Support or Xbox Support to try to sort things out.
Finally, Bungie said Destiny Level 25 class packs can no longer be purchased on PS4 or Xbox One. Be sure to read Bungie's full blog post for more information about all of today's Destiny news.
In other Destiny news, Bungie has announced that a replica of an infamous hand cannon is going to be a PAX West exclusive.
