A new round of changes to Destiny's Crucible matchmaking are in the works, and you can give them a try today, July 6.
Bungie has announced it plans to roll out the changes for a limited time today, but only in the Control playlist, so as to avoid disrupting the entire game if issues arise. The goal for the changes is to reduce the amount of time spent waiting to find matches.
"When the new settings are applied, players at the extreme ends of the skill curve (you probably know who you are) should see shorter matchmaking times," explains senior designer Derek Carroll. "Connection quality is still the primary search criteria. The changes we're implementing will make playlists more responsive to the overall composition of the player population. As Matchmaking times shorten, you may encounter players across a wider range of skill."
A specific time for the test wasn't announced beyond "this afternoon," so it should be within the next few hours. There's also no word on when these changes will be permanently implemented if the test goes well.
Bungie recently released an update that weakened Hunters, among other things. Meanwhile, a new expansion pack, Rise of Iron, is on the way to Destiny in September. It won't be available for those on Xbox 360 and PS3, as things will soon change for players on those platforms.
