Square Enix has reaffirmed that MMO Dragon Quest X is in development for Nintendo's new system, the NX.
In an interview with Famitsu (as translated by IGN), producer Yosuke Saito was asked about the issue of server load on the game's existing platforms. In reply, he casually mentioned the upcoming release of the game on a pair of platforms.
"I think there will be an influx of new players that peaks with the launch of the PS4 and NX editions," he said. "Up until then, rather than the incoming new players, we are doing our best for the people who are playing already."
A PS4 version had previously been confirmed, as was an NX version--for a brief period of time. Square Enix was actually the first company to confirm games for the system last year when it said during a livestream that both Dragon Quest X and XI were coming to NX. However, it quickly backtracked, stating that the two games were merely "under consideration" for release on NX.
[IMG]This latest statement suggests an NX version of at least Dragon Quest X is indeed happening. (Officially, Dragon Quest XI is coming only to PS4 and 3DS.) As for whether it's coming to the West, though, remains unknown--it's now been over four years since its 2012 launch on Wii. It was subsequently ported to Wii U and PC in 2013, but no version has made it out of Japan.
Just recently, a report stated the NX will be at least partially portable and use cartridges. Much of this tracks with what we've previously heard about the system, which is slated for a global release in March 2017.
