The Nintendo 3DS remake of Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King is no longer scheduled to come out this year. In today's Nintendo Direct briefing, the company confirmed the game had shifted to sometime in 2017, though a specific release date for next year was not announced.
The Dragon Quest VII remake for 3DS is still on schedule for release on September 16. Both games are already out on 3DS in Japan.
Dragon Quest VII and VIII's remakes for 3DS in the west were confirmed during a Nintendo Direct briefing in November 2015. Before that, the game's director stated that bringing the games to the West would depend on the performance of Dragon Quest Heroes.
In other news about Dragon Quest, Square Enix recently confirmed that Dragon Quest X is coming to Nintendo's NX console. This system is due out in March 2017, but no release date for the Dragon Quest game's NX version has been divulged.
