Pixar's next movie is Cars 3, which is due out in summer 2017. Today, the acclaimed production company put out the first trailer for the animated movie--and it might not be what you would have expected.

The 49-second video shows the character McQueen getting into a horrible wreck, somersaulting through the air, and crashing down back onto the track, pieces of the car flying every which way. After this, text pops up that says, "From this moment, everything will change." Watch the video in the embed above.

By contrast, the first two entries had a very lighthearted tone. The movie's official description reveals the first story details, suggesting the plot will be about McQueen's recovery after this horrible crash.

"Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves," reads a line from the description. "To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn't through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing's biggest stage!"

Directed by Brian Fee (Cars 2, Ratatouille), Cars 3 opens on June 16, 2017. Owen Wilson returns to voice McQueen, but we don't know who will voice Cruz.

In other news about Pixar movies, the company recently delayed Toy Story 4 again, this time to summer 2019. The Incredibles 2 is slated to come out in summer 2018.
