News Get in the Holiday Spirit With This New Video Game Christmas Album

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it's time for Christmas music. If you've traveled by car and had the radio on in the past few days, you know Christmas music is already flooding the airwaves. Maybe you want more Mario Kart and less Mariah Carey, or prefer to at least mix it up a little.

Scarlet Moon Records today announced a video game music Christmas album. Titled "Scarlet Moon Christmas Album 2016," the nine-track EP features music from video game and film composers including Hiroki Kikuta (Secret of Mana), Vince DiCola (Rocky IV and Transformers: The Movie), Robyn Miller (Myst and Riven), and Justin Lassen (Underworld series), among others.

GameSpot was provided with the album. Lassen's "Rainbow Road," which puts an electronic, sweeping spin on the iconic song from Mario Kart 64, may be my favorite of the bunch. Another standout track is "Aspertia City - Winter" from Pokemon Black & White 2, which flat-out rocks with its guitar-heavy composition. More traditional Christmas cuts on the album include "Jingle Bells" by DiCola and "Angels We Have Heard on High" by Kikuta.

This is the second Scarlet Moon Christmas album, as one also came out in 2014.

"After releasing the Scarlet Moon Christmas EP in 2014, we wanted to rekindle that passion by creating even more Christmas-themed tracks to get music fans of all ages and genres in the spirit of the season," producer Jayson Napolitano said in a statement. "And as it would turn out, most of the artists on the roster love Christmas music just as much as we do!"

You can pick up the album for $8 right here on LOUDR; it can also be bundled with the 2014 record. The album is in the process of appearing on iTunes and Spotify. We'll add links here when they come online.
