News Mass Effect: Andromeda's PS4 Pro Frame Rate "to Be Decided," Says BioWare

    As part of Game Informer's coverage, Mass Effect: Andromeda creative director Mac Walters answered 101 rapid-fire questions about the game and revealed a few interesting bits of information in the process.

    Among these is confirmation that the Ryder family--which is made up of Alec Ryder (the father) and twin siblings--one of which is player character, can be of different ethnicities.

    Another tidbit is that the game will run at 30 FPS "on some platforms." When asked to clarify what this means, Walters said more powerful PCs will run the game at a higher frame rate. Pushed on the game's performance when played on PS4 Pro, he said this was "to be decided."

    Later on in the interview, Walters said the galaxy map would return, but it's "very different" from the one featured in the previous three games.

    Game Informer also asked whether a Mass Effect: Andromeda save file would carry forward into future projects but was told this was "to be determined." Andromeda exists separately from the previous Mass Effect trilogy and Walters said it was "a huge relief" that all the old decisions and branching storylines didn't have to be factored into the new game.

    BioWare hasn't announced a new title to follow Andromeda, and recently said it wasn't the start of a new trilogy. However, Walters previously qualified that it could make more Mass Effect games in the Andromeda galaxy, as there are more stories to be told there.

    The series' iconic Paragon and Renegade dialogue options will make a return but won't use these descriptors.

    "[They're] not called Paragon or Renegade, but there will be choices that feel like Paragon or Renegade," Walters said, later adding, "Interrupts, there will be those," referencing the ability to stonewall a conversation with a specific dialogue option.

    The mineral-scanning feature will also return in Andromeda, but it will be "different than what you've seen before." One thing that won't be returning, however, is the original crew members from previous Mass Effects.

It also explained how Andromeda avoids dealing with Mass Effect 3's ending and confirmed it will have a crafting system and an updated New Game+ mode.

    Andromeda is scheduled to launch this spring for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. While not confirmed, multiple retail listings have suggested a March 21 release date.
