The first trailer for Konami's just-announced co-op Metal Gear game, Metal Gear Survive, did not feature much in the way of stealth, which is one of the core pillars of the franchise. There is no cause for alarm, however, it seems. Brand manager Richard Jones acknowledged in an interview with Eurogamer that the trailer was light on stealth, but assured that the full game will indeed feature this element.
"Co-op is only one of the gameplay mechanics," Jones explained. "Obviously Metal Gear is well-known for its stealth, that is, primarily, what makes Metal Gear. There is stealth in it. I know when you're watching the trailer it's all very action-packed and it doesn't really elicit that feeling, but there will be stealth."
[IMG]Co-op and stealth don't seem to go hand-in-hand, but it appears Konami has found a solution.
"One of the really interesting things that we will be exploring and playing with is how stealth and co-op can actually co-exist," he explained. "We've formed gameplay that that kind of allows and enhances that. We're not going into a lot of depth at the moment, but we will, obviously, in the future."
Also in the interview, Jones talked about Metal Gear Survive's new weapons/equipment/items and how Konami is hoping to stick to the franchise's core values as it relates to them.
"One of the things that Metal Gear is well-known for, and very good at, is giving you a vast array of equipment from weapons to items to all forms of devices and allowing you to experiment and use those creatively," he explained. "And that is part of the fun and part of what makes Metal Gear Metal Gear; it's the creativity around using your weapons and items. And it's something we've looked at and something which we're hoping to build upon with new weapons."
Eurogamer also asked Jones if Metal Gear Survive started its development before Hideo Kojima's exit in 2015 or sometime later. "Yeah, we're not talking about that right now," Jones said. He also confirmed that the game is being made in Japan (though no developer was named), but declined to say who is directing. Additionally, Jones mentioned that Survive will not be a $60 game, but didn't say more.
Metal Gear Survive launches in 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Some new images from the game were released this week and can be seen here.
