The version of the Xbox One S you can currently find in stores will only be available for a limited time, so you should act fast if that's the one you want.
Microsoft confirmed this with GameSpot in a statement, saying, "The 2 TB Xbox One S was released as a special launch edition in limited quantities only. We're thrilled at the amount of interest we've received and we are always looking for opportunities to offer choice and fantastic value to our fans. Please check with your local retailer to determine whether the 2 TB Xbox One S is still available in your market."
Some retailers have already sold out their allotment of 2 TB systems. Eurogamer reported they had sold out for good, and that now appears to be the case.
When it was first announced, availability for this $400 system was described as "limited." It was unclear at the time that this meant no more would be produced (as opposed to simply being difficult to find at launch due to high demand).
This isn't necessarily a big problem; as we previously noted, if you're in the market for an Xbox One S, you're likely better off waiting for one of several upcoming bundles. On August 23, there will be three new versions offered: a 1 TB model that comes with Madden NFL 17 for $350, and 500 GB ($300) and 1 TB ($350) models that come with Halo 5: Guardians and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The Xbox One makes using an external hard drive easy, so compensating for the smaller hard drive sizes is painless and relatively inexpensive.
[IMG]Later this year, we'll also get another version of the system when the 2 TB Gears of War 4-branded console is released.
The Xbox One S debuted earlier this month, introducing 4K and HDR support in a smaller, sleeker box. It also provides a performance boost in some, but not all games. You can read more about it in GameSpot's review.
