News Monster Hunter's Nintendo Direct Reveals a New, Upgraded Version of Generations

The previously announced, Monster Hunter-focused Nintendo Direct aired earlier today, revealing a new version of Monster Hunter Generations.

Capcom's new game is called Monster Hunter XX, according to a translation by Gematsu. As this Nintendo Direct was geared toward the Japanese market, where Monster Hunter is significantly more popular, we don't yet know if the game is coming to the West. When contacted for comment, Capcom would only say, "No announcements have been made for the West."

Monster Hunter XX features an expanded version of Generations (known as Monster Hunter X in Japan) with a variety of new features. These include additional techniques for all weapon types, more abilities for Prowler mode, and a new base, areas, and main monster types. There are also two new Hunting Styles, only one of which was discussed. The Brave Style allows you to quickly evade attacks and deal damage through continuous, linked attacks.

You can watch the announcement trailer above or the full Nintendo Direct below. Both are in Japanese.

Thankfully, players won't have to abandon their saved data from Generations. While XX is a standalone game, saves can be transferred from the previous game. Save data from Monster Hunter Stories also serves a purpose, as it can be used to unlock felyne armor (and a voice) based on a character from that game.

Monster Hunter XX launches for 3DS in Japan on March 18.
