Oculus VR made a number of announcements today, one of which involved Oculus Rift shipments. The company again apologized for shipping troubles and confirmed that all preorder units have now, months later, finally shipped.
Additionally, new Rift orders placed on Oculus.com will ship within 2-4 business days. People with questions about their order can reach Oculus here.
[IMG]"We want to apologize for the delays in getting Rifts to doorsteps," Oculus said. "We appreciate that without your support, VR wouldn't be where it is today. Thank you for your patience over the past few months."
The $600 Rift started shipping in March for people who preordered. People quickly reported shipping issues and Oculus eventually stepped in to cover shipping costs.
Oculus also announced today that the next Oculus Connect event will be held October 5-7 in San Jose, California. In a blog post, Oculus said this will be the company's "largest developer conference yet," featuring more than 50 "technical talks." There will be speeches from Oculus executives such as Brendan Iribe, John Carmack, and Michael Abrash, who will reveal "the latest news and announcements from Oculus and our partners."
Attendees can also expect to "see a glimpse into the future of VR." Last year's event was streamed live, but it hasn't been said yet if the 2016 event will also be.
Oculus also teased that it will have "lots more to share" about the Rift Touch controllers, including details on the 30-plus games that will support them, at the Oculus Connect event. These unique-looking controllers remain on track to launch this year, Oculus said.
Oculus made a number of big announcements at last year's Oculus Connect, including a $99 Gear VR headset and things like Netflix and Twitch apps for virtual reality.
Finally, Oculus said it has started to "ramp up" Rift inventory at brick-and-mortar retailers and online. Additionally, beginning this month, some Microsoft Store will offer Rift demos, while Oculus is expanding its Best Buy demo presence to more than 500 stores through this fall.
