The cast for the upcoming Ocean's Eight has been announced. Sandra Bullock will lead an all-female team in the heist thriller spinoff, which also includes Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, and Rihanna.
[IMG]As reported by Deadline, producers are close to signing deals which will ensure an impressive roll-call for the movie. The full list so far consist of Bullock, Blanchett, Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, and rapper/comedienne Awkwafina.
As the site notes, the film is still casting. Only seven of the title's eight have been announced, and it remains possible that characters from Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's trilogy might make an appearance. Both Jennifer Lawrence and Elizabeth Banks were previously rumoured to be in consideration for the movie.
The movie will be directed by Gary Ross, who also helmed the first Hunger Games, and produced by Soderbergh. According to The Tracking Board, Bullock will play the sister of Danny Ocean, the character portrayed by George Clooney in Soderbergh's films.
In an interview with Slashfilm in June, Ross explained that he would very much follow the tone set by the hugely successful original trilogy. "I think it's a pretty similar tone," he said. "You know, Steven and I are incredibly close friends, and we would not have done this if we weren't. I don't think he would've wanted anyone to do it if we weren't. This is very much an extension and a continuation. He's a producer on the movie."
Ocean's Eleven earned $450 million worldwide in 2001, and while the two sequels weren't quite as successful, they all proved to be considerable box office hits.
