Pokemon Go Estimated To Have Been Downloaded 75 Million Times

By now, you probably know that Pokemon Go is wildly popular. It was downloaded more times in its first week than any other app in history, in fact. Now, an analytics firm has estimated that the game has crossed another milestone, likely racking up a ridiculous 75 million downloads.
That number comes by way of Sensor Tower, a group that analyzes mobile apps which also estimates that the game is the fastest ever to reach 50 million global downloads across iOS and Android devices. As Sensor Tower's Head of Mobile Insights Randy Nelson explained in a post, this stat puts Pokemon Go "in a class by itself for first-month mobile game downloads."
He continued: "To date, the game has been launched in just 32 of the more than 100 markets in which the App Store and Google Play operate, with more on the way. In all available App Store territories, the game is ranked No. 1 for downloads and revenue, including France and Hong Kong, its two most recently added regions."
That second point is particularly notable, because Pokemon Go still has a long way to go. Even though it seems to have peaked in usage in the US, it has many more opportunities worldwide to expand.
Nelson also compared Pokemon Go to another popular app, the recent Candy Crush spinoff, Jelly Saga. He stated that it had "surpassed 50 million installs after just over three months, but even it did so with the help of copious mobile, web, and real world advertising. So far, Pokemon Go has yet to be featured on the App Store or Google Play in any country, and only ran a limited number of app install ads for three days following its launch."
In addition to being a cultural phenomenon, Pokemon Go has also given rise to some weird stories and strange occurrences. Check out our full list of worldwide Pokemon Go news here.
Surprisingly, though, it has not made publisher Nintendo that much money. Nintendo's shares plummeted today after last week's earnings report in which the company explained that the game's runaway success wouldn't positively affect its finances.
