The auction for an ultra-rare Pokemon trading card has ended, and the buying price might leave your jaw on the floor. The mint condition "Pikachu Illustrator" promo hologram card went for $54,970 at a Beverley Hills auction, according to CNBC.

It was sold by Heritage Auctions, which initially projected the card to fetch $50,000.

The rare card shows the iconic creature Pikachu holding a quill and other illustration implements. The card is so rare because it was never sold to the public; instead, it was offered as a prize for an illustration contest held by CoroCoro Comic in 1998. Only 39 are believed to have been ever released.

Heritage Auctions director Barry Sandoval told CNBC that, of the 39 cards in existence, only 10 have been certified to be in "top condition." He added that another Pikachu Illustrator card was sold in 2000 for $23,000. Sandoval said the popularity of Pokemon Go might have helped boost trading card values.

On top of that, Niantic updated Pokemon Go this week with changes to the Combat Power of several Pokemon. Also, you can earn double XP in the game until November 30.
