In June, Bourne writer Tony Gilroy was brought on to assist with reshoots of upcoming Star Wars spinoff Rogue One. It has now been reported that Gilroy has remained on the film, and is playing a major part in its editing.
[IMG]According to The Hollywood Reporter, while director Gareth Edwards remains heavily involved, Gilroy "has been empowered to take the lead" in the post-production process. The site's sources stress that the two filmmakers are working together, with Gilroy performing a similar role during the production of Edwards' 2014 blockbuster Godzilla.
Gilroy is best known for directing The Bourne Legacy and the George Clooney thriller Michael Clayton, as well as writing the first three Bourne movies.
THR also states that the Rogue One reshoots have now been completed, and were designed to tackle a number of issues, including the film's ending. Sources at Disney had previously denied that the reshoots were for anything major. In June, EW quoted one source, who stated: "The changes have everything to do with clarity and character development and all take place [as inserts] within scenes we've already shot."
New footage from the upcoming film, which opens in December, was revealed at the recent San Diego Comic-Con. A new trailer was screened, but although this is yet to be released elsewhere, a short featurette and a new poster are available online. Check them out here.
Rogue One hits theaters on December 16, 2016. It stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Forest Whitaker, and Mads Mikkelsen.
