Suicide Squad has broken another box office record and even outpaced Marvel's Captain America: Civil War in one area. Deadline reports that the DC Comics movie made $14.27 million at the US box office on Tuesday, up 9 percent from Monday. That's a record for a Tuesday in August; Monday was a record, too.
The Warner Bros. movie keeps topping Guardians of the Galaxy, which held the previous record for a Tuesday in August with $11.9 million back in 2014. Suicide Squad's $135 million domestic opening weekend shattered Guardians of the Galaxy's $94.3 million record for an August debut.
[IMG]With $14.27 million on Tuesday, Suicide Squad also paced ahead of Captain America: Civil War, which made $13.76 million on the Tuesday after its release in May. It's also ahead of the Tuesday highs for Avengers: Age of Ultron ($13.1 million) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($12.7 million).
After five days in the US, Suicide Squad has now pulled in $161.1 million, while its global haul stands at more than $280 million, according to the latest numbers on Box Office Mojo. Suicide Squad is expected to be the No. 1 movie in its second weekend, fending off newcomers like Sausage Party and Pete's Dragon.
Suicide Squad's box office success comes despite the film's middling critical reception.
In other news about Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie recently offered up a theory on why so many of Jared Leto's Joker scenes were cut from the movie.
