The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red is working on a standalone Gwent game, and it sounds like the studio wants all of its players to be able to play against each other. CEO Marcin Iwinski told IGN that it's ready for cross-platform play between PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
"We are keeping our fingers crossed for Rocket League paving the way," Iwinski said. "Our upcoming Gwent: The Witcher Card Game will launch in closed beta for PC and Xbox One later this year, and Microsoft already confirmed Gwent's cross-play feature not only between Xbox One and PC, but also other consoles if they allow it. We also do have a technical solution in place for PS4 and would love to add Sony's platform to cross-play at the start of open beta. All we need is a green light from Sony."
Rocket League developer Psyonix recently said that it would only take a "few hours" to turn on PS4/Xbox One cross-play. It's just waiting on the thumbs-up from Sony. The developer said it had figured out cross-platform play between the two consoles back in March.
Microsoft announced its cross-platform functionality back in March. Rocket League was the first Xbox One/PC cross-play game, and Microsoft extended the invitation to "other platforms." Sony said it's open-minded to partnerships, but it has not addressed the topic further. Sony already supports PS4-PC cross-play with a number of games, including Rocket League.
Gwent: The Witcher Card Game was announced at Microsoft's E3 press conference, alongside an open beta that starts in September. You can find out how to sign up for the beta here.
GameSpot got an opportunity to play Gwent, in which we discovered that it's more like The Witcher 3 than you'd think. The collectible card game has a 10-plus hour campaign, voice acting, and an open world.
