The closed beta test for the standalone version of The Witcher 3's card game, Gwent, begins today, CD Projekt Red announced.

Only a limited number of PC and Xbox One players will have access to the beta right away; the PS4 beta is still scheduled to start "later." The PC test will expand to offer a Windows 10 Universal Windows Platform version at some point in the future, while the Xbox One test is offered through the platform's game preview program.

The first wave of invitations should be sent out shortly to those who registered on Gwent's website, which you can still do if you haven't already. Its official Twitter account notes, "Invites are going out in waves, so don't worry if you didn't receive one yet! We'll be adding more folks over time."

If you took part in the previous server stress test for Gwent, you'll need to make sure you use a new code to gain access to the beta.

"What we created as a part of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, is now, because of your involvement, a standalone game and a totally different experience that firmly stands on its own. The closed beta is another step in the process--you can now help us shape the game into something you can call your own."

Gwent was first announced at E3, where we learned it's more like The Witcher 3 than you might expect. This beta was previously expected to begin in September, only for it to be delayed. "We know we can make a first impression only once, and want to be sure everything is ready before we blast off," CD Projekt Red said in August. "Delivering a good game is more important to us than keeping a deadline."
